The Fairmont managed Savoy Hotel re-opened its doors in October 2010 following the one of the most ambitious and extensive refurbishments in British Construction and Hotel history. Chorus is fiercely proud to have worked on this project, making the world famous and iconic Savoy fit for the 21st century. When Fairmont Hotels took ownership in January 2005, a complete overhaul of the hotel was high on the agenda. It became immediately apparent after our appointment as main contractor in November 2007 that the entire building would require a far greater and more complex refurbishment and restoration than originally considered. Century old methods of construction, outdated building materials, dilapidated structures, together with client led design demands and the discovery that the building footprint was larger than first surveyed, prolonged the project from the initial twelve month completion period to thirty three months in total. The painstaking preservation and restoration of the Grade II listed features such as the art deco fittings meant that at the peak of the project as many as 1000 workers were on site on a daily basis to recreate the Savoy's decadent splendour. |
