Policy Statement

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY STATEMENT

We recognise that all of our operational activities have environmental implications and as such, are aware of our duty to conduct our operational activities in an environmentally aware manner. We comply with all current and emerging environmental legislation and maintain our management system in accordance with the general requirements of ISO 14001: 2004.

To this end we aim to:

  • Prevent environmental pollution and, where possible, identify opportunities for environmental improvement
  • Fully comply with all current and emerging legislation
  • Set a framework for establishing and monitoring our environmental aspects and environmental objectives
  • Encourage our employees and sub-contractors to avoid and prevent environmental damage and to act as good neighbours to those affected by our activities
  • Provide and display this policy document to all members of staff for their general reference
  • Ensure that the Board and operational directors review this policy at least annually, or sooner as needs dictate

IMPLEMENTATION AND MONITORING

The directors are responsible for the effective implementation of our environmental policy and are responsible for:

  • Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with relevant environmental legislation, company policies and procedures, as referenced within our management system documentation
  • Promoting the use of materials and substances that can be procured from sustainable sources and, where appropriate, are both reusable and recyclable
  • Minimising the production of unnecessary waste and coordinating the effective removal of waste using registered carriers to transfer waste materials to licensed disposal and recycling sites
  • Taking appropriate measures to control ground, drainage, sewer, river and water pollution
  • Taking appropriate measures to control air pollution from noise, smoke, fumes and dust
  • Seeking to conserve the use of energy, water and paper
  • Ensuring that a 'good neighbour' policy is implemented to provide effective protection to the general public
  • Considering international protocols that support reduction of ozone-depleting gases such as CFC's
  • Ensuring that company vehicle drivers are encouraged to avoid the excessive use of fuel, unnecessary braking and, wherever possible, to use public transport or any other environmentally friendly mode of transport
  • Considering the protection of wildlife, habitats, flora and fauna, archaeological and heritage sites
  • Ensuring any incidents that are deemed detrimental to the environment are investigated, reported and effective preventative action is undertaken to prevent reoccurrence
  • Ensuring all members of staff understand the need to notify a company director of any deficiencies that they have observed, enabling effective actions and control measures to be put into place
  • Ensuring any environmental issues that can affect a client's instructions are effectively managed including, wherever applicable, liaising with applicable local or national authorities or institutions
  • Ensuring all environmental issues are periodically discussed and the results routinely relayed to all members of staff and any further interested parties as and when necessary
  • Periodically reviewing and monitoring our policies, processes and working practices to determine their continuing suitability and effectiveness and to review our ongoing compliance with applicable legislation

SUPPLIERS AND CONTRACTORS

We are dedicated to influencing our suppliers and contractors to consider implementing whatever environmental improvement initiatives that might be of value to their business and to us, their customer.
